Located in the strip mall housing Lee Lee Asian Market, you know they have access to the freshest of Asian ingredients.

Clean and quaint, the filet beef salad was delicious. I wish this was closer to home.

If you enjoy really great sushi bar or being entertained by a grilling chef at your table, then Kyoto is a great and inexpensive place to try when your in downtown Scottsdale. The doors open at 5pm with a line typically waiting to get in, so I suggest you make a reservation.

Los Favoritos

8489 McDonald Dr., Scottsdale 85250 (multiple locations, but this one is not far off the 101)

One of the few places open til 11pm, I often drive by on my way home from shopping late at Fashion Square, or on my way to a hair appointment when I know I need something to tie me over for awhile, or, when I just want a quick dinner to go. This is one of the few Mexican food places I will eat at as I typically prefer to cook it myself.

An enjoyer of simple things, I consistently order a bean and cheese burrito. This embodies the classic flavors of homemade pinto beans, cheese and fresh flour tortillas. If you get this right, and they do, which isn’t always as easy as it should be in our world of canned goods and preservatives, you have an easy and nutricious quick bite.¬† So enthralled, I now order my flour tortillas from here and take them home, cut them in half (they are huge) and layer wax paper in between them and freeze, to use as needed.

Their rolled or soft tacos with shredded beef, or beef and bean burritos are my family’s favorites-hence the name!

Andreoli Italian Grocer

September 22nd, 2009

8880 E. Via Linda, Scottsdale 85258

480-614-1980

www.andreoli-grocer.com

Closed Sundays

This is Scottsdale’s Italian deli/restaurant like no other. Besides the accent of the clientele which makes you feel like you are visiting Italy, the baked goods, deli meats and cheeses, and entrees are sure to please. I come here especially to buy fresh mozzarella for my Caprese salads. They also sell basic Italian grocery products, including wine to take home.

Rainbow Donuts

September 22nd, 2009

1347 E. McDowell Rd., Phoenix 85006

602-256-7404

I spotted this donut shop on the way home from the downtown farmer’s market. It is the only privately owned donut shop

I know of and though it isn’t quite as good as Leucadia’s or Eagle Rock’s, it holds me over!

Thai House Restaurant

September 22nd, 2009

SE Corner of Hayden/Frank Lloyd Wright (Between Best Buy and Staples)

15576 N. Pima Rd. #A-5, Scottsdale 85260

This is our neighborhood-actually city wide-favorite, Scottsdale, that is.

I am a creature of habit, and the Panang consistently hits the spot. This is a great place for family parties and the BYOB/W policy is certainly an added benefit.

La Tartine French Bakery

September 22nd, 2009

16650 E. Palisades Blvd. #103, Fountain Hills 85268

480-816-4222

www.la_tartine@yahoo.com

The oven¬† for baking bread and pastries was brought here along with it’s owners, straight from France. Baked fresh daily to go as well as dine in for lunch or a light dinner. It is a shame they settled into such a quiet area as they deserve better exposure. It is the one place in Fountain Hills I truly enjoy.

Too Divine

September 2nd, 2009

1166 S. Gilbert Rd., Gilbert

480-539-4688

This is a dessert and coffee shop opened by a retiring couple, with pastries provided by Ganache This!

I’ve not tried it yet, as it isn’t in my neck of the woods, but as soon as I do, I’ll be sure to update my review.
