I took my daughter Macy here on our way out to see the Ballet this holiday season. What a charming little spot nestled on McKinley and Third.  With little white lights trailing the window seats it was certainly festive. We sampled the happy hour menu and the waiter was right when he suggested the calamari was the best in town. Adding to it a salad and doubling up on the sushi rolls, we left so full and sated. Can’t wait to go back!

How delighted we were to discover this wonderful new restaurant at 5th and Laurel, upon our most recent trip to San Diego. This gets an “A” for atmosphere, service, food, creativity, decor, daily specials…I could go on and on! Using fresh, seasonal and local ingredients, the chef creates delicious fare for the antipasti, insalates, pizzas, pastas, piatti’s and contorni’s plates. The vibe is cool, modern, artsy, comfortable, and communal. One of those places you wish you had in your area so you could keep coming back. They have a wine market and also sell a few boutiquie kitchen items. Kensington Grill is their sister restaurant I have yet to try.

This charming little shop located in Ahwatukee, serves as both a wine store, beer bar and cafe for locals. With a variety of seating arrangements both indoor and out, decorated with the owner’s obvious love for I Love Lucy and her wine stomping antics, you are sure to find a comfortable seat to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine from around the world to suit your fancy.  They also offer a slew of brew on tap and in the bottle, as well as happy hour specials,  of which I tried the pizza and a beer for only $10.  The 10″ pizza was pretty good and I managed to eat the whole thing. The server was accommodating to my simple bottled beer request,  rather than the special offerings on tap. They also have a range of appetizers, soups and salads, as well as a few pasta dishes, and a worthy espresso bar.
